A military official was detained in Odessa for embezzling budget funds for the construction of a sports complex for the Armed Forces of Ukraine
The SBU press service reported this, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The military counterintelligence of the Security Service, together with the State Bureau of Investigation, eliminated another corruption scheme for the theft of the defense budget during the construction of infrastructure facilities for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. As a result of complex measures, the chief engineer of the military housing and maintenance department was detained in Odessa.
According to the investigation, the official embezzled more than 1 million hryvnia from the budget, which was allocated for the construction of a multifunctional sports complex in one of the military camps in the region,” the report says.
It is noted that to implement the scheme, he attracted the director of a local construction company, who was supposed to provide all the work on the construction of a modern sports complex for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“However, the contractors did not fulfill their obligations. In particular, more than 800 m² of rubber covering and more than 50 outdoor lighting equipment were not installed. At the same time, the defendants received full payment from the budget, took the money into the shadows and distributed it among themselves. To do this, false information was entered into reporting and financial and economic documentation.
Construction, technical and economic examinations confirmed the facts of criminal activity,” the SBU reported.
Both the military official and the director of the construction company were charged under three articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
