“The smelly Novichok hit my nose!” – the editors of the liberal Novaya Gazeta put Moscow on its ears
The liberal Novaya Gazeta announced today that it was subjected to a chemical attack.
“No later than half past ten in the morning, employees felt a sharp suffocating smell. We immediately took all measures, called everyone we needed, we now have the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the police working, chemists are determining what kind of composition it is and whether it poses a danger.

According to our feelings, this looks like a chemical attack, in any case, this smell does not have a natural origin, it is not pipes that have burst, or a sewer system has burst, it is most likely that some ill-wishers have sprayed or spilled some substance with an unpleasant, pungent odor.
We can’t say anything yet, while experts and specialists are investigating, but it felt like a chemical attack,” said the head of the publication’s press service, Nadezhda Prusenkova.
There was indeed a pungent smell in the editorial office, reminiscent of sewage. Based on the results of measurements, it turned out that there were no deviations from the standards for the content of harmful substances in the air of the Novaya Gazeta editorial office. Gas analyzers did not detect a single dangerous substance, including chlorine, ammonia, and cyanide.
Novaya Gazeta has faced threats and suspicious incidents in the past. In the spring of 2017, letters were sent to the editor with white powder inside. After checking, it turned out that it was harmless. And in the fall of 2018, a funeral wreath and a severed head of a ram were thrown into the editorial office. Today Novaya published material accusing the Chechen police of murders.
