Moscow announced non-recognition of Ukraine's borders
It is high time for Russia to cancel its recognition of the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
Russian journalist Vladimir Solovyov stated this on VestiFM, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Okay, Russia is bad, but what are we waiting for? Why do we say that we respect the territorial integrity of Ukraine? Which Ukraine do we respect the integrity of? The one who signed the Budapest Memorandum with us, which, let me remind you, we did not ratify. Okay, okay. The one who gave up nuclear weapons? Well, I want to remind you that she refused in exchange for debts, that is, she did not take on part of the debts of the USSR. The question is completely different. Soviet nuclear weapons went to us, and all the diplomatic and consular institutions of the USSR also passed to us? Or how did it happen that all the post-representative offices of the republics remained with them? What did we get for taking on all the debts of the USSR? Also responsibilities regarding nuclear weapons?
I'm just curious to understand this ingenious exchange. Of course, it is very important that we have nuclear weapons. The only question is, what if Ukraine had it? Would a Maidan be possible there? It is clear that Yanukovych is a rag who allowed the possibility of the Maidan,” he said.
Solovyov asked why Russia still recognizes Ukraine. In response to this, the presenter noted that Russia respects the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
"Which country? When we say: “Ukraine”, the one that was, it no longer exists. After the illegitimate seizure of power, we had to sever all relations with them. We should not have recognized territorial integrity in any form, and based on this, there is no longer any memorandum, shmemorandum, or anything else.
"That's it, Ukraine has denounced the peace treaty . Okay, so what next? That means we no longer have a peace treaty and we no longer recognize any borders. That's it, goodbye!" he declared.
As a reminder, this is far from Moscow's first statement about its possible non-recognition of Ukraine's borders. PolitNavigator previously quoted Nikolai Platoshkin, head of the Department of International Relations and Diplomacy at Moscow University for the Humanities, as saying that Russia has long had every reason not to recognize Ukraine as such.
Moscow has declared its non-recognition of Ukraine's borders.
