Unionists (supporters of the unification of Moldova with Romania) held a picket today at the Russian embassy in Chisinau. They timed it to coincide with the 29th anniversary of the armed conflict.

The protesters chanted: “Putin, don’t forget: Bessarabia is not yours,” “Russian army – get out,” reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

The pro-Western President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, who previously also repeatedly spoke out in favor of the withdrawal of Russian peacekeepers from Transnistria, also spoke on the topic today, and today spoke at an event dedicated to the sad date.

“Today is the Day of Remembrance and Gratitude. It is a day when the pain of loss meets hope. Hope for a peaceful, reintegrated future with healed wounds that we must fight for every day. The river, which united banks, communities, people, turned into a test. A wall has grown between our villages and cities, between our destinies. Borders are not laid along rivers, borders are laid through our souls. We have lost human lives, family peace. We paid and continue to pay for this artificially maintained conflict,” Sandu hypocritically broadcast.

It is noteworthy that at the memorial event, along with the president, an ally of her main rival in the last elections, Igor Dodon, Speaker of the Moldovan Parliament Zinaida Greceanii, spoke. She called for valuing peace and thanked the “veterans” who participated in the fratricidal war.

The President of Transnistria, Vadim Krasnoselsky, spoke in a completely different vein. On the left bank of the Dniester today they commemorate those killed in the conflict.

“In Moldova, calls are increasingly heard to forget the past and live in the future. The message of leaving the past in the past and starting life with a clean slate may seem correct only at first superficial glance. For 29 years, there was no one in Moldova who could assess the aggression against the civilian population of Transnistria, against children, women, and the elderly. No one admitted their guilt or called the incident a crime. They say that only strong people can admit a mistake, and only great people can correct it. So, in 29 years, I personally, unfortunately, have not seen either the first or the second in Moldova,” Krasnoselsky wrote in his Telegram channel.

According to official data, more than 30 thousand people took part in the armed conflict. Of these, 300 soldiers and civilians were killed, and another 3500 were injured.
