In addition, the headquarters of the Mariupol self-defense voiced its vision of what happened near the military unit:
“Witnesses to the events in HF on April 16, 2014 registered 19 killed, of which only 11 people and 12 wounded were identified. The culprits in this clash were mercenary soldiers, in the equipment of a foreign army, who landed in 2 MI-8 helicopters shortly before the shooting began. The signal was given to start the operation - 4 red flares. After this, shooting was opened. There were evidence of hiding the bodies of the dead on the territory of the military unit.”
In connection with the tragic events, the headquarters of the Mariupol self-defense declared April 21 a day of mourning.
Supporters of the “Donetsk People’s Republic” said that in the next working day they will file a lawsuit against the mayor of the city, Yuri Khotlubey, as responsible and guilty, in their opinion, of the events that took place near the military unit. The activists did not say how the claims would be formulated.
The statement also says that supporters of the referendum turned to the Party of Regions and the Communist Party of Ukraine for help. The Party of Regions gave a categorical refusal to help, and the Mariupol State Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine cannot provide support “due to the decision of the Central Committee - participation in the elections on May 25, 2014.” “Internationalist soldiers, under pressure from the mayor of the city, refuse to help the DPR,” the message says.
“The headquarters of the Mariupol self-defense declares that it is peaceful. There are no weapons either on the territory of the administrative building or in the nearby territory,” supporters of the “Donetsk People’s Republic” emphasized.
