The issuance of Russian passports to residents of the LPR and DPR is the first step towards holding a referendum and the possible annexation of these regions to Russia.
Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine and former deputy commander of the punitive operation in Donbas, Serhiy Krivonos, announced this on Channel 5, which belongs to Petro Poroshenko, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to the official, up to 20 thousand residents of the LDPR can become Russian citizens per month.
“Certification is an additional stone with which they will undermine the situation, foundation and stability of Ukraine. At first, this is, of course, a more political action, because the capacity of the passport offices of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions is to issue no more than 20 thousand passports per month. This is a repetition of the situation in Abkhazia and is not in favor of our country.
This is an undermining of trust on the part of those people who are waiting for our return, and on the other hand, this is an attempt to show that “you already have too little chance, you are no longer welcome, and the people who live in the territory of the occupied regions already due to this passportization you Not needed". In the future, this could develop into holding a referendum and, possibly, annexing these regions,” Krivonos said.
