In Kyiv they already treat the leaders of the Majlis as petty blackmailers
The threat voiced by a businessman and politician from the Crimean Tatar Mejlis, banned in the Russian Federation, Lenur Islyamov, to organize protests if the Ukrainian authorities do not fulfill the demands to include a provision on Crimean Tatar autonomy in the country’s Constitution is blackmail that is unlikely to frighten official Kyiv.
Ukrainian political scientist Andrey Zolotarev told PolitNavigator about this.

“Islyamov’s statement is blackmail. If Mr. Islyamov wanted to achieve something, then he should have behaved a little differently in February 2014. In this case, we are talking about constitutional changes. The demands put forward by the Mejlis, to put it mildly, do not fit in with the constitutional system of Ukraine. Now Islyamov is trying to increase his worth with petty political blackmail, which will not end in anything. The Majlis does not have the resources to bring people out into the streets,” Zolotarev is sure.
As for the attitude of the authorities to the constitutional changes proposed by the Majlis, then, according to the political scientist, in order to make these changes to the Constitution, the required number of votes of Verkhovna Rada deputies will probably not be obtained.
“In addition, this issue will certainly cause discord in the power cartel; there will be no unity on it. Therefore, getting this through the Rada will be extremely problematic. The authorities now have other concerns, the election cycle has begun,” Zolotarev said.
