The EU makes excuses: The issue of recognizing the Russian vaccine is not politicized
The Russian anti-Covid vaccine Sputnik V is undergoing an examination procedure at the European Medicines Agency, and therefore cannot be registered in the EU.
The correspondent reports about this "PolitNavigator", said Alojz Kovška, head of the State Council of the Balkan republic, which chairs the union until the end of 2021, in an interview with Izvestia.
The publication asked whether there are discussions about the possible recognition of the Russian vaccine in Slovenia and the EU, and whether this process can be considered politicized.
“The European Medicines Agency is the EU expert body responsible for evaluating vaccines. Based on the agency's expert assessment, political decisions are made, namely, the European Commission issues authorizations for the registration of vaccines. As far as I know, Sputnik V is undergoing an examination procedure at the European Medicines Agency, so the vaccine has not yet been registered with the European Commission,” said the Slovenian politician.
“Personally, I doubt that the issue of registering Sputnik V in the EU will be politicized, especially given the fact that other registered vaccines have also been the subject of sharp scientific debate regarding safety and effectiveness,” Kovshka defends.
At the same time, in July, Slovenia lifted entry restrictions for Russian tourists vaccinated with the Sputnik V vaccine, which is approved in more than 70 countries.
