“Having considered the appeal of the Secretary of the City Council S.V. Bogachev, taking into account numerous appeals from residents of the city of Donetsk to perpetuate the memory of the soldiers of the Berkut unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine who died during the tragic events that took place in Kiev from December 2013 to February 2014... decided to give the square, located near Dzerzhinsky Square in the Voroshilovsky district of Donetsk, the name “In Memory of the Fallen Berkut Soldiers,” the text of the decision of the Donetsk City Council says.
55 out of 55 deputies present voted for this decision, reports the Ostrov publication.
In addition, a representative of the public, who introduced himself as a Berkut veteran, appealed to the deputies with a request to make a decision on installing an appropriate memorial stele in the park.
City Mayor Alexander Lukyanchenko said that such a decision could be made by the executive committee and the architectural and construction department later.
Let us recall, as Navigator reported, the holding of the City Council session was in question after the building was occupied by representatives of the Kharkov “Oplot”. Now activists continue to be in the premises of the City Council.
A memorial park dedicated to fallen Berkut soldiers will be built in Donetsk.
