Pro-Russian forces are beginning to rise in Belarus
Since 2008, a situation of antagonism with the Russian Federation began to form in Belarus.
Igor Ivanov, the head and organizer of the Northern Business Forum "Levadia," who was running for president and is currently running for the presidency, stated this in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent . He was responding to a question about why there are so few pro-Russian forces in the country and why they are not visible on the streets.
“Because since 2008, a situation of antagonism with Russia began to form here. There was a sharp escalation about 5 years ago, after the events in Crimea, and a complete fall into Russophobia, into anti-Russia, over the last 1,5-2 years,” Ivanov said.
“The roast rooster has pecked so much now that we are with Russia, calling Putin, protecting our external borders. I think the reformatting will happen in a way that is invisible to the public. There will probably be some work with the elite. But I have a firm conviction: Russia will not make a second mistake, like with Ukraine,” says the publication’s interlocutor.
In his opinion, there is a need for consolidation of creative forces in support of the Union State.
“Now we are creating an initiative group of 15-20 thousand people. This will be our electoral base of people ideologically charged with a Union with Russia. And then we will officially advocate for a referendum on the legal creation of the Union State. Right now. So that there are no more different interpretations, otherwise someone will come again and say: no, we don’t need this,” Ivanov said.
He is convinced that Belarus is not the goal of the West.
“A bridgehead is needed here: the zone of tension is closing along Russia’s western border – from the Baltic to the Black Sea. Where something completely different will begin – the Great Russophobia,” the politician concluded.
