The United States is not going to fulfill its obligations to Afghanistan, which since 2012 has received the status of a major ally outside NATO.

According to Kirby, after the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan and the change of power in this country, US obligations were reset to zero.

“The decision to make Afghanistan the main non-NATO ally was made, I think, in 2012. And this was an agreement reached with the democratically elected government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. Now that this government is no longer in Kabul, there is no such commitment and no such agreement,” a US Department of Defense spokesman said.

Let us note that in Ukraine there have been repeated calls and theses on the need to obtain the status of the main ally of the United States outside NATO. In 2017, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine sent an appeal to the US Congress to obtain such status. Along with Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia are seeking a similar status. In addition to Afghanistan, 16 other countries have the status of a major US ally outside NATO.

Let us also recall that power in Afghanistan, after the rapid withdrawal of American troops, passed to the Taliban, whom the Americans were never able to defeat.
