Ukrainian expert: The loss of Bakhmut threatens the Ukrainian Armed Forces with encirclement
Bakhmut (Artemovsk) is extremely important for Ukraine. Losing it will create strategic problems for the Ukrainian troops, which the Russian army will be able to encircle from several directions at once.
Ukrainian military expert Oleg Starikov stated this on the air of the video blog "Yes, That's True," reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“Now, if we take it, the fighting has greatly intensified along the entire line of the eastern front, starting from Lugansk, Kharkov region - Kupyansk and down to Ugledar. Now the escalation has gone very strongly. The very center is Bakhmut, which, if it is lost and there is some kind of breakthrough, this will lead to strategic problems, or operational-strategic ones on the eastern front. That’s why the president went there, and resources and reserves are coming,” the expert said.
“But if they move not by kilometers, but by hundreds of meters, then this is also considered progress. Because in itself this is a place that, in case of its loss, both to the north and to the south provide certain [opportunities], that is, it is possible to take our group into an operational environment both to the north and to the south. Therefore, the President, as Supreme Commander-in-Chief, and Commander-in-Chief General Zaluzhny pay special attention to this,” Starikov said.
Let us recall that earlier Ukrainian propaganda and speakers at various levels assured that Bakhmut had no strategic importance, but at the same time, the military command sent more and more reserves there to hold the city.
