Ukraine will spend money on propaganda for Crimea and Donbass, realizing failure in advance
Ukraine plans to create two TV channels that will broadcast in Russian to the Donbass republics not controlled by Kyiv and to the territory of Crimea.
This was stated on the ATR television channel by Sergei Kostinsky, a member of the National Council for Television and Radio Broadcasting and a fugitive Crimean Maidan activist, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to the official, we are talking about an information television channel broadcasting pro-Ukrainian propaganda for the Russian-speaking population abroad and an entertainment television channel for Donbass and Crimea.
“According to the plans, an information channel should be created, that is, UATV should be reformatted into an information Russian-language TV channel that will broadcast outside the borders of Ukraine to a Russian-speaking audience and, thus, inform the Russian-speaking audience in Russia, in Germany, and anywhere, and the second is a TV channel that should be created for the occupied territories. This is an entertainment channel that will... back in the fall, the discussion was around the spirit of television channels - informational and entertainment. Because we need state foreign broadcasting, and the entertainment channel is being created, as I understand it, in order to compensate for the encoding of the most popular Ukrainian TV channels.
This entertainment channel will accumulate the most popular entertainment content, films, series, programs in order to distribute this signal over the air, thanks to digital television and analogue television technology, to controlled and uncontrolled territories along the demarcation line. To Donetsk, Lugansk and the territory of Crimea from Chongar, from Chaplynka, Skadovsk and so on,” Kostinsky said.
At the same time, a member of the National Council admitted that there is little sense in broadcasting to Crimea and Donbass; transmitters from the Ukrainian side “finish off” only 50-60 kilometers in depth:
“In my opinion, the distribution of this content will not cover all residents of temporarily occupied Crimea. This is broadcasting. A miracle will definitely not happen here, because this is physics. On-air broadcasting, digital, what we know as T2, analog or FM, is always local broadcasting over a distance of 50-60 kilometers, depending on the height of the suspension, the power of the transmitter, and so on. In my opinion, it will not be possible to completely compensate for the encoding of satellite TV channels.”
Earlier, retired American military officer and former head of the NATO mission to Russia, Yuri Tabakh, who emigrated from the USSR, stated that Ukraine needs to create its own television channel that would broadcast pro-Ukrainian propaganda abroad, but in Russian. He believes that the Russian-speaking émigré community doesn't understand the language and gets its information about Ukraine from Russian media.
