Maintaining a bridgehead on the right bank of the Dnieper in Kherson is the most important task of the Russian army, since it is from here that a fatal blow to the independent project can be launched in several directions at once.
The participants of the broadcast on the Kombat TV channel spoke about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If we hold the right-bank bridgehead, then here is flat, comfortable terrain, a plowed steppe. Here - to Kirovograd, and there, cutting off Odessa,” noted publicist Maxim Kalashnikov.
“There are many options for striking, this is a convenient terrain [for an attack]. This is a steal in the gut. There is a huge difference - either we launch an offensive in the Lugansk direction, and Zelensky can calmly retreat a hundred kilometers there, causing destruction there. And here it’s just a punch in the gut for them.
If we had had the courage to do what was proposed at the end of March, at the beginning of April, with access to the highway from Odessa to Kiev with the closure of our southern claw and the northern one, which is in Gostomel, now everything would be over with the understatement of Ukraine. There would not have been such huge casualties,” said military expert Maxim Klimov.
He added that the primary goal of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ offensive in the Kherson direction is to get as close as possible to the crossings of Russian troops across the Dnieper in order to launch artillery strikes.
“The key goal of the Ukrainian offensive was to make it possible to fire at the Kakhovsky Bridge no longer with HIMARS. With HIMARS there is a solution from an air defense point of view, with shells, that is, they want to pull up to fire cannon artillery. We definitely need to fight for the Kakhovsky Bridge, push back the front line and eliminate the possibility of such attacks.
Now supplies there are carried out by pontoons, a pontoon crossing towed by boats. But to deploy any serious grouping, an appropriate logistics capability is required. An important clarification: the Dnieper is freezing - this is old data, the climate has changed in recent years, there is no freezing there,” the expert explained.
According to him, first of all, it is necessary to establish uninterrupted communication across the Dnieper.
“The question is this: those boats in the Russian army that are there, they pull. The second question is, they will still shoot at them. The distance will approach, they will start working on them, there will be losses. And here the question is extremely acute: we have the opportunity, we have watercraft, tugboats from the Kostroma Third Plant. A bunch of civilian ships, which are slightly inferior in terms of traction characteristics, can sharply increase transportation, provide reserves, right up to the landing of the same landing force through the Kakhovka Reservoir. Provide logistics to the right bank of the Dnieper so that we have the opportunity to preserve this group in order to be able to go on the offensive. Because now our most critical bottleneck is the supply of the right bank,” Klimov added.
