The Constitutional Court of Moldova on Friday, January 5, issued a verdict on the temporary removal of President Igor Dodon from office due to his refusal to sign a law on countering Russian television political propaganda.

This is the third temporary removal of the president from office over the past few months, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the decision of the authority, the presidential authority to sign the law banning Russian political propaganda will be exercised by Prime Minister Pavel Filip or Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu.
Three days earlier, on January 2, President Igor Dodon was also temporarily suspended from office due to his refusal to sign a decree on new appointments in the government led by Pavel Filip. It is expected that in the near future the corresponding decree will be signed by the speaker of parliament, who will take the oath of office from the new ministers and deputy prime ministers, after which the powers of the president will again be returned to Igor Dodon. A similar decision will apply to the removal of Dodon in connection with his refusal to sign the law on “countering Russian propaganda.”
Dodon was first suspended from office in October 2017, when he refused to sign a decree appointing Eugen Sturza as Defense Minister.
