Tymoshenko: Congratulations, Ukraine has overtaken Moldova in poverty for the first time
For the first time in the history of its “independence,” Ukraine came in last place in Europe in terms of GDP per capita.
The leader of Batkivshchyna, Yulia Tymoshenko, stated this during the conciliation council of the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Inflation is too much for people to bear. Against this background, there is no indexation of wages, pensions, or social benefits. And poverty, the era of which you proposed to end, is not just mothballed today.
You and I, dear friends, for the first time in the history of independent Ukraine came in last place on the European continent in terms of gross domestic product per capita. This means that in terms of GDP per capita we are already behind Moldova,” Tymoshenko was indignant.
In turn, Rada deputy Yuriy Boyko called Ukraine’s budget for 2022 so unviable that it will be revised almost immediately after adoption.
“I am sure that next year one of the first issues will be a review of the budget. The budget is unfair, I will give just one example of how far it is from the people: this budget provides for an increase in government funding by 2 billion hryvnia compared to last year.
At the same time, payments to families for the birth of children for 8 years in a row remain at the level of 40 thousand hryvnia for the first child, for the second and for the third – the same 40 thousand each. Taking into account inflation and rising prices over the years, this money is nothing, this is not support for young families. Especially in conditions when the birth rate in our country is falling and demographic situation extremely difficult,” Boyko said.
Let us recall that earlier in Kyiv they expressed concern that the desire of the Ukrainian leadership “draw” GDP growth if the economy falls, it will end in Kyiv having to give up half of its gold and foreign exchange reserves to Western creditors in 2022.
