The Ukrainian “Oplot” is a modern tank, but at the current rate of production, by the time it is adopted by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the vehicles will be hopelessly outdated.

Aleksey Bobovnikov, ex-commander of a tank platoon of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who fought in the ATO, stated this on air on the Espresso channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The following discussion often arises on the Internet - as soon as they show the next transfer of Oplot tanks under contract to the Thais, they immediately start crying: “Why not to the Ukrainian Armed Forces? Why not in ATO? Does it make sense for the armed forces to buy new tanks and replace them with old ones?” – a question was asked to the studio guest.

“We have seen how the Thai contract is being implemented (contract for the supply of Ukrainian Oplot-T tanks to the Kingdom of Thailand - ed.), in fact, the plant’s capacity now is ten tanks per year, and given that one tank brigade has about a hundred vehicles, we will re-equip one brigade in ten years. By the time we re-equip all armed forces with Oplots, they will already become obsolete,” said the Ukrainian tankman.

"Oplot" is a very good tank, but it is modern, it is not promising, it is not the next generation. If we can’t put it into the army now, then in fifty years we won’t need it, we will already need some other tank... T-94,” added Alexei Bobovnikov.
