“Svoboda”: Poroshenko has no right to order a ceasefire in Donbass
Kyiv, June 10 (Navigator, Vladimir Mikhailov) – Petro Poroshenko has no reason to promise a ceasefire in the Donbass in the current conditions, since such a step would provide a respite for the pro-Russian rebels.
Yuriy Sirotyuk, a member of the Verkhovna Rada parliamentary committee on national security, told Navigator.

“I believe that a ceasefire is only possible under certain circumstances. If Russian saboteurs and their accomplices are ready to unconditionally release all hostages, all seized administrative buildings, and leave populated areas, then we can talk about some conditions for a ceasefire. Otherwise, it will turn out that we are giving a break. Each previous respite ended in tragedy for Ukrainian soldiers and Ukrainian citizens, so we must see it through to the end. It is better to bring the fight against the Russian occupiers in Donbass to its logical conclusion, then there will be no need for a truce. But we must remember that peace is a won war. Or a lost war and capitulation,” he said.
“As for the ceasefire this week, we can talk about it if we manage to free all the administrative buildings and all the hostages. I think that, first of all, the president should have enacted a decree on martial law, and then talk about other steps. The situation in Donbass cannot be improved solely by military measures; a whole set of measures is needed - economic, social, humanitarian, but without military measures nothing will happen.
Simply stopping the fire without eliminating the terrorists will be the biggest mistake of the newly elected president. He is the supreme commander in chief. What does the supreme commander do in a country that has been invaded by the enemy? One agreement can be signed with the Russian separatists in Donbass - on unconditional surrender, and for those whose hands are not stained with blood, we can talk about some lighter prison sentences,” concluded Oleg Tyagnibok’s comrade-in-arms.
