Advisor to Poroshenko: The Ukrainian Armed Forces handed over the terminal at Donetsk airport because it was made of plasterboard
Kyiv, February 04 (PolitNavigator, Alexandra Ignatieva) – The main problem of the defense of Donetsk airport for the Ukrainian military was that it was made of plasterboard.

This was stated by volunteer, adviser to the President of Ukraine Yuriy Biryukov.
“The main problem of the Donetsk airport is that a building made of plasterboard is absolutely impossible to defend. But in essence, the new terminal is load-bearing structures plus drywall. To drive many, many people inside there... We would have lost a lot more.
The building was actually shot right through, it was pierced through and through. There was not a single room where one could feel safe. I was there inside. Initially, buildings were controlled nominally. The artillery controlled the approaches to them,” the volunteer said, as quoted by the Elephant publication.
According to him, the idea that the airport was held by volunteers is fundamentally incorrect.
“Who was it in the Donetsk terminals? Donetsk terminals were held by Ukrainian regular troops. There were also volunteers from the Ukrainian Volunteer Corps (DUK) “Right Sector”, but the proportion, sorry! During the periods when there were the most of our boys inside - from 170 to two hundred people, of which DUK was 15-20 people. And another 180 people - paratroopers plus mechanized brigades. Plus reconnaissance battalions and special forces.
But the paratroopers don’t write much about themselves on Facebook, I’m trying to somehow fill this gap, tell them that the 79th, and the 25th, and the 81st, and the 80th, and the 95th are fighting with us landing brigades. But it just so happens that there are more people hanging around the volunteer battalions on Facebook.
A socially active stratum went there at one time and actively uses social networks. Therefore, the impression was that only volunteer battalions are fighting on the front line. In April-May it really was something like this, but since the summer the regular army has been fighting,” Biryukov said.
