Shoigu: NATO’s “fifth column” operates inside Russia
The Russian Ministry of Defense is restraining the increased activity of the NATO bloc along the borders. However, there is still a “fifth column” problem within the country, which should be solved not by the army, but by the parliament.
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced this during a plenary session of the Russian Federation Council, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The military activity of the North Atlantic Alliance near our borders is increasing every year, the bloc’s land and sea forces are expanding, and the composition of NATO member countries is expanding. A global missile defense system is being deployed in the United States.
In counterbalance to these and other threats, we are fulfilling the tasks set by the Supreme Commander-in-Chief in his message to the Federal Assembly. First of all, deterrence potential is being built up.
High-precision hypersonic aircraft-missile systems "Dagger" are on experimental combat duty, and flight design tests of the naval hypersonic missile "Zircon" are being carried out. Last December, the first Avangard missile regiment, as well as Peresvet laser systems, entered combat duty. The modernization of industrial production for the serial production of the Sarmat heavy intercontinental ballistic missile has been completed,” he noted.
The Minister of Defense emphasized that an equally fierce struggle and arms race is taking place in the information sphere.
“The information space today has become another theater of military operations. Over the past three years, more than 25 thousand high-tech computer attacks from abroad have been carried out on the information infrastructure of the Armed Forces. At the same time, the annual number increases by an average of 12%.
We are ready for this fight. Of course, I would like them to have a little less assistants inside the country.
The Ministry of Defense has created a reliable system for protecting information resources, ensuring high stability of the aircraft control system. All attacks are neutralized,” Shoigu added.
However, the minister drew attention to the presence in Russia of people spreading fake news about the army, as well as spying on military facilities.
“We actively counter fake news. Western countries accuse Russia of involvement in high-profile incidents, such as interference in the American elections, various hacker attacks, concealing military losses, and so on.
In our country, they are picked up by the pro-Western information division, which is regularly trained abroad. Hiding behind media laws, its activists are trying to penetrate military installations, hunt for relatives and witnesses, break into hospitals where our wounded and sick lie, into cemeteries and funerals, into the families of our dead guys. They film the entrances and exits of our closed facilities and post them on the Internet.
One can imagine what kind of responsibility they would face in Western countries. This area requires further legislative regulation,” the minister urged.
