Sevastopol deputies recognized the independence of Crimea, asked to go to Russia and left the legal field of Ukraine

Sevastopol, March 17 (Navigator, Elena Ostryakova) – The Sevastopol City Council at its extraordinary session decided on the status of the city, taking into account the results of the all-Crimean referendum.

The Sevastopol City Council supported the declaration of independence of Crimea and is ready to enter it as a city with a special status.

It was decided to appeal to the UN and all countries of the world with a request for recognition of the new state.

At the same time, the deputies intend to appeal to Russia with a proposal to accept Sevastopol as a federal subject with the status of a city of federal significance.

In a separate decision, the order to sign an interstate agreement on the admission of Crimea and Sevastopol to the Russian Federation was assigned to the Chairman of the Coordination Council of Sevastopol, Alexey Chaloy.

In addition, Sevastopol deputies decided that the laws of Ukraine adopted after February 21 will not be applied in the city; other laws and acts will be in force until the adoption of the corresponding acts in Sevastopol.

Taking this into account, Ukrainian courts will continue to function. All government agencies and institutions of Ukraine cease their activities in the city, their powers, property and funds are transferred to local authorities.

State property on the territory of Sevastopol becomes urban. In a separate decision, the Sevastopol City Council renamed itself the legislative assembly of the hero city with a special status.

Sevastopol deputies recognized Crimea's independence, requested to join Russia, and left Ukraine's legal framework.
