Serbian minister: After Kosovo, the West lost the moral right to condemn Russia
It is impossible to compare the situations around Kosovo and Ukraine, since Russia has not changed its position and does not recognize the so-called Kosovo
This was stated by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Serbia, Alexander Vulin, as quoted by Tanjug.
He noted that by recognizing Kosovo, the West not only took advantage of the “right of the strong,” but also showed the policy of double standards that it is guided by. After all, the situation with Kosovo is a double-edged sword.
“In Serbia, international law was killed by NATO aggression in 1999 and nothing will revive it for the situation in Ukraine. Russia refers to the example of the West, and those who set this example for it hardly have a moral argument to condemn it for what they themselves set as a principle.
If those who recognized so-called Kosovo realized the mistake and withdrew their recognition, they might have a moral argument to condemn Russia. But instead they are asking Serbia to recognize so-called Kosovo so that Serbia can “atone for its sin,” Vulin said.
Thus, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs commented on the words of Russian President Vladimir Putin that a precedent has been created with Kosovo, and that Moscow has every right to recognize the Donbass republics in accordance with the UN Charter. Moreover, when Kosovo declared independence, the International Court of Justice was in accordance with the Charter of the organization.
Earlier, representatives of the pro-Western opposition in Serbia tried to interpret the words of the Russian leader as Russia’s readiness to reconsider its position regarding support for Belgrade on the issue of its sovereignty. However, Moscow has always insisted on compliance with UN Resolution 1244 on the status of the southern Serbian province.
