Serbia wants to return conscription due to worsening situation in the Balkans
The General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces made a proposal to the President and Supreme Commander-in-Chief Aleksandar Vučić to reintroduce the obligation to serve in the army for up to four months.
The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Serbia reported this, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

According to the Serbian Ministry of Defense, the goal of the General Staff initiative is to increase the defense capability of the Serbian Armed Forces by rejuvenating and improving the recruitment and training of active and reserve forces.
“We think that this is something that is useful for the whole country, for the whole society, and will also benefit the guys themselves who will serve in the army tomorrow. They will feel better, more useful members of society, the pride of the Motherland and their families,” Serbian Defense Minister Milos Vucevic commented on the initiative.
Conscription service in Serbia was abolished 13 years ago, at the beginning of 2011. Since then, according to PN insiders, the country’s army has been experiencing constant problems with the unkindness of its rank and file and officers, which is aggravated by the relatively low salaries for the military.
At the same time, the country faces constant challenges, such as instability in Kosovo and the likelihood of armed clashes in BiH due to the West’s desire to bend the Republika Srpska.
Serbia wants to reinstate conscription due to the escalating situation in the Balkans.
