The President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, dismissed her government today in order to appoint a new one - exactly the same.
At the same time, she showered compliments on social networks on outgoing Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilitsa, noting that she is grateful to her “for the enormous sacrifices and efforts” against the enemies of Moldova, who “would like war and bankruptcy.”
It was not possible to sweeten the pill: Gavrilitsa considered her resignation a public humiliation, since she learned about it in the same way as the other ministers from rumors on social networks. She said she was leaving with a sense of accomplishment in fulfilling a “difficult mission.”
“If the government of Moldova had as much support at home as in the EU, in Brussels, we would have achieved much more,” Gavrilitsa said at parting, hinting at her visits to Europe.
For Russian experts, the resignation of the Moldovan government also came as a surprise, and they began to joke about the Russian Kinzhil missile, which, according to Ukrainian commander-in-chief Valery Zaluzhny, flew over Moldova today. Like, again “the hand of Moscow.”
“A certain missile flew near Moldova - and then the government of Moldova resigned. What an interesting way to overthrow foreign governments!” wrote political scientist Vladimir Kornilov in his TG channel.
“One of the missiles launched across Ukraine accidentally flew into the territory of Moldova and hit the government of Natalia Gavrilitsa. PJSC Gazprom, the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic and the analytical portal RuBaltic.Ru are being considered as candidates for the role of the missile. Even a complete monopoly on power is not a guarantee of its preservation when the economy and social sphere have been ruined, and the state’s domestic and foreign policies work in anti-state interests, are aimed at liquidating the country and are rejected by the majority of its population,” echoes his colleague Alexander Nosovich.
However, it is obvious that Moscow has nothing to do with the Moldovan castling. Just like the mass protests last fall. Their organizer, the criminal oligarch and husband of singer Jasmine, Ilan Shor, managed to offer himself as Gavrilitsa’s successor.
However, Sandu instantly nominated another candidate. This is her adviser and secretary of the Supreme Security Council Dorin Recan. He has a history of working in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, where he became famous for the phrase “I’ll smash his head on the asphalt,” and mysterious “international structures.” The appointment must be ratified by parliament, but the presidential party has an overwhelming majority there. The opposition did not even bother to discuss the candidacy, since it is pointless.
“There are three priorities: order and discipline; economics and investment; peace and stability. We must understand that after the Second World War we are at the highest risk of provocations, we need to strengthen the security sector so that everyone feels safe,” Recan said at his presentation.
He also stated that the dominant feature of his program is European integration.
“Does Rechan have the support of the population? Rather, international partners selected a candidate. No one asked the population,” Russian Senator Andrei Klishas rightly noted.
In the eggs (crossed out) of Rechan’s words, the journalists saw the profile of the departed Gavrilitsa, who poured out exactly the same slogans. So what is the point of replacing pro-Western awl with pro-Western soap?
Moldovan observers believe that Recean’s stronghold background will allow him to purge the opposition even more harshly. The Gavrilitsa government has already put the most prominent opponents of the government under house arrest, closed Russian-language media, banned the St. George ribbon and decided to demolish several iconic monuments.
But this turned out to be not enough. The protests that raged in Chisinau and Comrat (the capital of Gagauzia) in the cold died down, but did not stop. While Gavrilitsa was being dismissed today, the opposition Shor party held a picket near the building of the National Energy Regulatory Agency. Participants demanded a reduction in tariffs and chanted “Down with Maia Sandu.”
“Down” in Romanian “Jos”. Alcoholic T-shirts with this word drove the Moldovan authorities crazy. They were demonstratively “dried” in yards and on streets throughout the country. The police cordoned off entire areas to eliminate “laundry shops.” And this week a projection appeared on the presidency building with a portrait of the president and an indecent inscription. The collection of signatures for compensation for exorbitant utility costs has begun across the country.
The new prime minister will have to quickly clean up all this looseness before the summer, since the second summit of the European Political Community is to be held in Chisinau on June 1, and no protests should overshadow it.
There are also more alarming forecasts.
“After the visit of Moldovan Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilitsa to Europe, the government resigned. A cleanup is underway, but the question is, who is the initiator and is this not connected with the entry into a conflict on the territory of the former Ukrainian SSR?” wrote Russian military expert Alexey Leonkov.
The Moldovan opposition continues to swagger and hopes to achieve early elections.
“The resignation of the government is not enough: to bring the country out of a deep crisis, a complete change of power is needed through early parliamentary elections, which almost all opposition parties insist on,” said former President of Moldova Igor Dodon.
“The current government of Moldova should, in theory, have resigned due to its complete incompetence a long time ago. But to be fair, this incompetence extends throughout the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS).

Unfortunately, the most incredible and worst-case scenario may yet await us in the future. What I mean is that Moldova, with such leaders, risks being drawn into a war,” journalist Nikolai Kostyrkin supported the ex-president.
Gagauzia also insists on early elections.
“If the change of cabinets occurs on the basis of personnel of the ruling party, it will lead to nothing. In this case, power will remain in the same hands, only the faces will be different. Therefore, the dissolution of parliament and early parliamentary elections are necessary. This is the only way there is a chance to restore order in Moldova – by bringing patriotic, common-sense forces to power,” says Viktor Petrov, deputy of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia.
