The West understands perfectly well that Russia will not allow Belarus to become another satellite of the United States and the European Union, and they do not want a repetition of the Ukrainian scenario.
Polish political scientist and leader of the Smena party, Mateusz Piskorski, stated this on the air of the Pravda internet channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The expert recalled that Russia has two of its military bases on the territory of Belarus, and therefore it is better to conduct a dialogue with it.
“We have experience of Russia’s reaction after what happened on the territory of Ukraine, I mean the democratic referendum, I myself was an observer at it, in Crimea, but this was also partly due not only to the rights of Russian speakers and other things, but also with the Black Sea Fleet, the base of the Black Sea Fleet in Sevastopol.
I believe that the base in Gantsevichi and Vileika, in fact, they are of strategic importance, firstly, and secondly, if you trace the history of various attempts to invade Russia, starting with the Napoleonic wars, ending with the aggression of Nazi Germany, Belarus - this is the path to the so-called “Smolensk corridor”, this is the direct path to Moscow.
I do not believe that any leadership of the Russian Federation will agree that, firstly, military bases are withdrawn from the territory of Belarus, and secondly, that Belarus becomes another satellite of the West, NATO, the USA and everything else.
I think that everyone understands this perfectly well, including in the West, because just look at Macron, Chancellor Merkel and others - they are all negotiating a resolution, a political resolution, a peaceful Belarusian crisis with the Russian leadership. They are well aware that without Russia, without a constructive dialogue with Moscow, it is generally impossible to resolve the Belarusian crisis,” Piskorski said.
