Former adviser to the Ukrainian President's office, Oleksiy Arestovich, stated this in an interview with liberal journalist Yevgeny Kiselev, who fled Russia, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to Arestovich, this will lead to a loss of Western support and demoralization of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“There will be a new stage of demoralization for us and a rise in morale in the Russian army. Our foreign partners will understand that the Russian army is quite capable of fighting under Putin’s leadership and even capturing large areas of the terrain and nodes. But the Ukrainian army was unable to demonstrate this when counter-attacking in the summer.
And then the number of supporters of negotiations, and negotiations when Ukraine is not in a strong position, will increase. There are plenty of such people in the West. This is dangerous for us, because even if we enter into negotiations somewhere someday, we must enter from a strong position,” the ex-official said
“But our counter-offensive was not very successful, and then Putin demonstrates that he is capable of capturing defense areas, and Avdeevka is the most fortified area on the entire 1300-kilometer front. If you knock out the strongest one, then they create the conditions for further movement to the borders of the Donetsk region,” Arestovich said.
