The list of those who will be subject to Russian sanctions in Ukraine will be long.

Vladimir Volya, a political scientist and international affairs expert at Ukrainian Policy Analysis and Management, stated this in a commentary to the PolitNavigator news agency.

The “trigger” for these sanctions could have been the events of recent weeks - the vote in the Verkhovna Rada on amending the Constitution to consolidate the course towards joining NATO and the EU, events surrounding the situation in the Sea of Azov, etc. It is also impossible not to notice that Ukraine supported the position Trump regarding the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty, statement of intent to withdraw from the treaty. In addition, our officials announced the cessation of trade and transport links with Russia,” he says.

Russia began to react, albeit belatedly.

“It is still difficult to say what kind of sanctions these will be; most likely, they will concern some personalities. The list of those who can be exposed to them is very large. I think this list will include the leadership of the state, i.e. officials of the Presidential Administration, ministers, all politicians who in one way or another demonstrate an anti-Russian position, including deputies who voted for certain laws or made anti-Russian statements. Various public figures, bloggers, members of public organizations, some of the heads of law enforcement agencies, and businesses that are associated with the current Kyiv government and support it may also end up here.

The question is who will support these sanctions. It is clear that the West will definitely not support it. Asia and Africa are not either. Belarus may become a risk zone for our politicians, and even then it is ambiguous. It is impossible to say yet whether Russia’s CIS partners will be willing to implement these sanctions. For now, this looks like a symbolic action that should show that Russia is reacting,” he said.
