New tactics of Kyiv: Ukraine has stopped bombarding the ECHR with claims regarding the “occupation” of Crimea and Donbass

Ukraine has decided to stop filing lawsuits with the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) against Russia on the facts of the “seizure of Crimea” and “occupation of Donbass”.

Government Commissioner for ECHR Affairs Ivan Lishchyna announced this at a press conference, the Kiev agency Ukrainian News reports.

According to him, there are currently 5 cases in the European Court on claims of Ukraine against Russia concerning events in Donbass and Crimea.

“We decided that we will not submit new applications. We will submit additions to the existing ones,” the government commissioner said.

Moreover, Ukraine asks the European Court to combine all cases relating to Crimea into one proceeding, and Donbass into another. However, the ECHR has not yet made a decision on this issue.

Lishchina also emphasized that Russia in court declares its responsibility for the events in Crimea only in the period from March 21, 2014, while Ukraine insists that from February 27, 2014.
