“Will this harm the SVO?” – Controversy broke out in the media over the Afrika Korps
Western media are sounding the alarm about the possible serious strengthening of Russia after the formation of the military “African Korps”. Its core is expected to consist of veterans of the Wagner PMC, who will now enter into a contract with the Ministry of Defense.
However, at the same time, some Russian media are expressing concerns about whether it is worth sending the most experienced and motivated fighters to the Dark Continent, and not to the Northern Military District zone?

An advertisement for recruitment into the ranks of the Afrika Korps has already appeared on the Internet. Western agency Bloomberg writes with alarm that the unit plans to recruit more than 20000 troops by mid-2024.
Military observer Boris Rozhin called a figure twice as large - according to his data, the “African Corps” will number 40 thousand bayonets.
One way or another, the fears of the “civilized world” are understandable - the Russians enter into and secure contracts with the states of the mainland, displacing Western colonialists who have been plundering Africa for centuries and to this day exporting jewelry and minerals from there for pennies.
However, a number of Russian media outlets have also expressed concern that the most experienced and motivated fighters will be deployed not to the Central Military District, but to the distant African continent. This is happening at a time when Ukraine is declaring a total mobilization, and the Ukrainian Armed Forces are preparing to deploy an additional 500 troops to the battlefield.
"On the one hand, the presence of fighters on the Black Continent strengthens Russia's position; on the other, these servicemen could be a valuable asset in carrying out special military operations," notes the Rex news agency.
The authors of the Novy Den agency, in turn, express concern that Russian fighters in Africa will become a tool of mercantile businessmen who will certainly want to take advantage of the displacement of Westerners and profit from control of oil or diamond deposits.
The Rex agency found one silver lining: " According to the contract, the transfer of a service member from the Russian special operations zone in Ukraine to the Afrika Korps is impossible ." This means that active-duty soldiers will remain in their positions.
However, the authors of critical publications believe that the leadership of the Afrika Korps should come out with clarifications about the new unit, clearly explaining its goals and objectives in order to dispel all the arguments of skeptics.
