“We urgently need to move away from the Orekhovsky direction” - Ukrainian military expert
According to all the rules of military affairs, Ukrainian troops need to retreat and level the front line, but the political leadership does not give such an order because it is afraid of offending the West.
Retired SBU colonel and military expert Oleg Starikov stated this on Alexander Shelest’s video blog, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
"Intelligibly, in terms of military art, we need to retreat from the Orekhov salient, straighten the front, and strengthen our positions. First, we're shortening the front line. Second, we're short on personnel, so we're increasing the number of men and weapons on the battlefield. And we're building fortified areas that will be very difficult to take," Starikov reasoned.
“Militarily it’s better. In military terms, a smart, planned withdrawal can lead to victory. Kutuzov left Moscow and eventually won the war.
But political expediency intervenes: If we retreat tomorrow, the West will not give us weapons, which means it will be even worse. So, not a step back, damn it, Brest Fortress,” the expert added.
