A unique rope aerobridge will be built in Chukotka
The government of the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug wanted to build a unique cable aerobridge that would connect the village of Ugolnye Kopi, where the airport is located, with the district center.
Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Trutnev announced this today while speaking in the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“This is a project related to the construction of a cableway from the airport to Anadyr. There is a very interesting transport scheme there. You arrive and, depending on the weather, you either sail on a boat or fly by helicopter.
And if there is no weather, then you don’t fly or sail, but sit at the airport across the bay from the place where you arrived. I promised that we would find funds to implement this project. We need to find a company and select a project,” Trutnev said.
The length of the aerobridge will be seven thousand 600 meters. For the first time in Russia, this project will use an improved technology for transporting passengers and cargo via an aerial cableway with two load-bearing ropes. This technology is fully adapted to Arctic conditions.
The facility is scheduled to be put into operation in the winter of 2023-2024. According to preliminary estimates, the cost of the bridge will be about 2,7 billion rubles.
