A new ski resort will be built on Lake Baikal, said the governor of the Irkutsk region, Sergei Levchenko, in his investment message.
“I believe that the development of alpine skiing in the city of Baikalsk represents a significant prospect for attracting more tourists to the region, including within the framework of the activities of the special economic zone. I instruct the Ministry of Sports of the Irkutsk Region to develop an appropriate program,” he said.
According to the governor, “the number of tourist arrivals in the Irkutsk region increases every year, so the issues of development and modernization of the entire existing tourist infrastructure are quite acute.”
“Over the past year we have made certain progress. 124 million rubles were allocated from the regional budget for the construction of engineering infrastructure facilities in the SEZ in 2018, sufficient to meet the current needs of residents.
Thus, for existing residents, barriers to starting the implementation of tourism projects will be removed. There are currently seven residents registered in the SEZ with a planned investment volume of over 2 billion rubles. And today I appeal to entrepreneurs interested in the development of tourism with a proposal to implement your investment projects in the territory of the SEZ with an already established and constantly growing tourist flow, i.e. in fact, with confirmed demand. Each company with a business idea aimed at creating a high-quality tourist facility has every chance to become a resident and, on the most favorable terms, lease the land plot required for the project in a unique, picturesque location on the shores of Lake Baikal.
I would also like to draw special attention to the fact that the legal construction of any objects in the coastal zone of Lake Baikal is possible only on the territory of the SEZ,” Levchenko emphasized.
