“We lost strategically. The West and Russia will divide Ukrainian sovereignty” – Bortnyk
Former President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, having signed the Minsk agreements, won a tactical victory that allowed him to remain in power, but strategically this is a complete defeat for Ukraine.
Ukrainian political scientist Ruslan Bortnik stated this on the NewsOne TV channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“The Minsk agreements are an unconditional tactical victory for Poroshenko, which allowed him to stabilize the governance regime. Remember, 2015, the peak of the economic crisis, the hryvnia, minus 15 percent of GDP, protests in the streets - no one believed that Petro Poroshenko would serve until the end of his term. This allowed him to stabilize the regime, but strategically from the point of view of state sovereignty this, of course, was a defeat for Ukraine.
Russia views this issue as strategic. She does not look at Poroshenko, at Zelensky, Russian analysts have been talking about a new 30-year war from the very beginning. They look at it from the point of view of decades,” Bortnik said.
“Strategically, such agreements, from which Russia will not deviate, are the desovereignization of Ukraine to one degree or another, the fixation of Russian influence on Ukrainian territory. We can either maintain the status quo - this two-faced, deceitful situation in which the elite and society exist in different political and information universes, or we will be forced to implement these agreements, and our sovereignty will be divided between Russia and the West,” the expert added.
