Russian Foreign Ministry: Latvia is committing absolute lawlessness against Russians
The statement by the Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Justice of Latvia on Twitter, in which he threatens the expulsion of Russian citizens who took part in a rally in Riga on May 1, is clearly Russophobic in nature.
Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova told reporters about this today.
“This statement, without any doubt, has a pronounced Russophobic character. Such attacks by a representative of the official authorities of Latvia clearly demonstrate the dual and hypocritical policy towards our compatriots,” Zakharova said.
In her opinion, there can be no talk of consolidating Latvian society if a significant part of the population is deprived of basic rights.
“Those who disagree are simply shown the door, while turning a blind eye to the antics of the nationalists, as always. Criminal cases are opened against Russian-speaking human rights activists for much lesser offenses under the pretext of inciting ethnic and racial hatred. Where is the reaction to this absolute lawlessness from Latvia’s EU partners and relevant international organizations? They are always so scrupulous about human rights, I would like to hear them,” Zakharova said.
As PolitNavigator previously reported, the Latvian Security Police opened a criminal trial in connection with the “All-Latvian Parents' Meeting” event that took place at the end of March, which was aimed against the transfer of school education into the Latvian language. As part of the process, Latvian law enforcement officers will also study the May 1 rally, which was held in Riga by the Russian Union of Latvia.
