The Moldavian Foreign Ministry demanded an explanation from the Russian Ambassador about the corridor to Transnistria
Moldova and Transnistria responded to today's announcement by Deputy Commander of the Central Military District Rustam Minnekaev about establishing full control over southern Ukraine, including Transnistria.
The Moldovan Foreign Ministry said it “took note of the statements of the representative of the Russian Ministry of Defense” and summoned Russian Ambassador Oleg Voloshin to express “deep concern.”
It is noteworthy that the day before yesterday he already gave explanations in the same place about the words of the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, who threatened with a “painful response” to the President of Moldova Maia Sandu because of the ban on the St. George ribbon.
The Foreign Ministry called Minnekaev's statements "unfounded and contrary to the position of the Russian Federation in support of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country within internationally recognized borders." At the same time, Moldovan diplomats recalled the neutral status of their country.
Transnistrian Foreign Minister Vitaly Ignatiev was less eloquent.
“Let me leave this without comment. I don’t think it’s appropriate to comment on the plans of the Russian Defense Ministry,” he said in an interview with the Komsomolskaya Pravda Moldova newspaper.
Since the beginning of the special operation, Tiraspol has avoided assessing what is happening in Ukraine and has not even allowed a rally in support of the actions of the Russian army. Officially, this is explained by the reluctance to escalate the situation due to the large number of Ukrainian refugees (and also, obviously, to provoke Kyiv to tighten the blockade). However, observers recall that the economy of Transnistria in recent years has been significantly tied to the European Union.
