Merkel, unlike Erdogan, did not stoop to Bandera greetings
Unlike Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, German Chancellor Angela Merkel understands what historical responsibility is, despite the fact that Bandera’s slogan “Glory to Ukraine!” became an official greeting.
Journalist and TV presenter Vladimir Solovyov stated this on the Rossiya-1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The studio showed Turkish President Erdogan and German Chancellor Angela Merkel in the same situation in front of a Ukrainian guard of honor during a visit to Kyiv.
"Glory to Ukraine!" – the Turkish leader greeted the guard, who replied: “Glory to the heroes!”
"Greetings, warriors!" – Merkel said in a similar situation.
“Did you really think we didn’t notice? Merkel was already there (in 2018 - ed.), when Poroshenko had already established your Bandera slogan. And Merkel, unlike Erdogan, understands what historical responsibility is. Which side did Turkey fight on during World War II?” – Solovyov asked rhetorically.
In addition, the footage shows how, going out to the guard, Erdogan peeks at the cheat sheet, where, obviously, a transcription of Bandera’s greeting is written.
Later, the Turkish leader, on board the plane returning to Ankara, explained his action to reporters.
“This is an official greeting to Ukraine. Isn't Ukraine a free country? Every president, when coming to Ukraine on an official visit, uses this greeting. As those who come to us say “Merhaba Asker!” (Hello, soldier - ed.),” the Sabah newspaper quotes Erdogan as saying.
