LPR Ministry of Emergency Situations announces a threatening situation at Severodonetsk Azot

In the Ukrainian-controlled city of Severodonetsk, a large chemical plant, Azot, was shut down due to gas debts from its owners. The situation at the enterprise is causing concern among the LPR authorities.

The head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the LPR, Sergei Ivanushkin, stated this at a conference in Lugansk.

He explained that after the closure of the plant, the owners began massive staff reductions. There is a threat that the desire to save money will also affect the services that deal with emergency situations at enterprises.

“It’s no secret that at Severodonetsk Azot the most important thing is the first minutes of the accident. People are assigned to combat crews. They know which valve to close. But now the enterprise is stopped. People are laid off. This means that we understand that in the first minutes the tragedy can grow,” the minister said.

Ivanushkin spoke in favor of LPR specialists gaining access to potentially hazardous enterprises in the Lugansk region to conduct environmental monitoring.

“We propose to create a commission to monitor these objects. In the event of a tragedy, a large number of the population will suffer,” the minister said.

“There are reserves of chlorine there. These businesses being shut down and cut down for scrap require urgent intervention. We are bringing this conversation to the Minsk site. So that chemically hazardous facilities on the territory controlled by the Ukrainian Armed Forces are allowed to be inspected by our specialists with the participation of all international humanitarian missions,” supported Alexander Drobot, acting. Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the LPR.

Earlier, representatives of the republics at the negotiations in Minsk, Denis Pushilin and Vladislav Deinego, published a statement that LDNR requires access of environmental experts and specialized specialists to critical infrastructure facilities throughout the territoryand Donbass, including controlled by Kyiv.

“There are a lot of enterprises in Donbass that, if operated incorrectly, carry the risk of man-made technological disasters. Ecology is not divided along the line of contact. All residents of Donbass and not only will suffer,” stated the acting. Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Donetsk People's Republic Natalya Nikonorova.
