Lukashenko asked Putin for new weapons
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to provide new types of weapons.
He spoke about this today at a meeting with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, who is currently in Minsk, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“I also asked the Russian President about certain types of weapons. I told him that when you arrive, we will look at what and where we need to really strengthen in terms of the Union State. There is nothing to be afraid of, we are ready to go for it. Recent events show that we need to boldly defend the interests of both Belarusians and Russians. It so happened that we were left alone in this regard, but not the weakest,” noted the Belarusian president.
He also invited Russia to think about new military exercises.
“We agreed with the President of Russia that we need to continue the Slavic Brotherhood exercises on the territory of Belarus, which are taking place near Brest. We welcome these exercises, and it is good that they are taking place, and, as they report to me, successfully. We need to think about the second stage of the exercises and other exercises, develop a plan, without looking around to see who will tell us what. We are not going to strain anyone or do anything brazenly, but we must look after our own interests,” Lukashenko said.
Earlier, reserve colonel Vladimir Trukhan, a member of the working group on the creation of a Russian regional grouping of troops (forces) in Belarus, stated that President Alexander Lukashenko, during the Zapad-2017 exercises, conveyed information regarding Russia’s defense capability to NATO representatives.
Western experts wrote that the Zapad-2017 exercises became a turning point in military cooperation between Russia and Belarus, because Lukashenko insisted on reducing the number of Russian participants and invited 5 observers from NATO.
Last year, the Russian-Belarusian military exercise “Union Shield 2019” took place at the training ground of the Western Military District in Russia, “so as not to aggravate the situation in Europe.”
