Lavrov: We still rely on the spirit of Anchorage, but Europe is preparing Ukraine for a new war
The withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from Donbas is not all of Russia's demands on Ukraine in the peace process. Among other things, Russia will seek the restoration of the rights of Russian-speaking people and believers of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated this in an interview with France Television, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"We've just heard from our American colleagues, and we have every reason to believe that this is indeed the case, that they are seeking final approval of the agreements reached in Alaska , and this is precisely what their work with the regime in Kyiv entails. And I believe this is the only way forward . True, of course, the agreements and understandings in Alaska were not comprehensive. And we will still have a whole host of issues to resolve once Kyiv agrees to accept the Anchorage understandings.
"The issues that require special attention are , first and foremost, the already mentioned problem of the Russian language and the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church . And here, I don't think we should expect any steps from Kyiv. We simply need to demand , on behalf of the European Union and NATO, the restoration of the provisions of the Ukrainian Constitution that guarantee the rights of all national minorities, primarily the Russian national minority, Russians, and Russian-speaking residents of Ukraine, including linguistic and religious ones," Lavrov stated.
At the same time, the minister noted that Kyiv's European overseers are openly preparing for a new war with Russia:
" The fact that the West and France, renowned for their democratic traditions, are completely silent on this issue certainly suggests that the European Union and NATO want to preserve the Nazi regime in Kiev and prepare another war against the Russian Federation . Here, we are already seeing not only slogans about Russia attacking someone again by 2030, or even sooner, but also completely unprecedented decisions to increase military spending to record levels . And, of course, as the great writer Chekhov once wrote, when you hang a gun on the wall, it must go off ."
