Klitschko ordered the demolition of everything in Kyiv that reminds of Russia
In Kyiv, on the initiative of the local authorities, the monument to workers erected under the Arch of Friendship of Peoples was dismantled.
As Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, who arrived to witness the monument's destruction, stated, there is no longer friendship between the Russian and Ukrainian peoples, so after its dismantling, the arch itself will be renamed, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Symbols must take on new meaning. This monument was erected in 1982. The workers hold the Order of Friendship of the Ukrainian and Russian people. The Russians showed their “friendship” by brutally killing civilians. This monument will be dismantled and moved to a place where monuments from the Soviet period are stored. And at the next session I am submitting a proposal to rename the Arch of Friendship of Peoples into the Arch of Freedom of the Ukrainian People. I am sure that the deputies will support this decision,” Klitschko said and announced the demolition of about 60 more monuments, bas-reliefs and signs associated with Russia and the Soviet Union.
During the dismantling of the monument, the worker's head, hooked on a noose, came off. This, like the fact of the demolition itself, delighted nationalists.
“Symbolically, the “friendship of peoples” was blown away at the first shake-up. Just like in life,” gloats Verkhovna Rada deputy Alexey Goncharenko.
"Beautiful. Finally. If only the orcs would hit all their heads like that,” Oleg Tyagnibok, the leader of the nationalist VO “Svoboda,” rejoiced in his blog.
TV journalist Maxim Ravreba, forced to leave Kyiv after the coup, criticizes the demolition of the monument, emphasizing that this will not help the Ukrainian regime save itself from defeat.
“The sculptural groups of the Reunification Monument in Kyiv have already begun to be dismantled. The criminal order was given personally by Klitschko. At a time when there is a war and people are dying, I somehow don’t really worry if the savages knock down another monument. I don't understand the point of destroying monuments. They don't bark, don't bite and will never leave their place. I categorically reject the magical properties of monuments. But savages are superstitious and believe in devilry. They also believe that if they break the monuments, the great Mganga will give them victory. Breaking monuments in an attempt to influence the outcome of the war is stupid. This will not help and will not save,” writes Ravreba.
