Kiev magazine: Crimea will be Ukrainian, regardless of the opinions of local residents

However, the publication stipulates that under Putin, the resumption of Ukrainian control over the peninsula is impossible, but does not exclude such a development of events with a change of power in the Kremlin.

“Yes, Crimea may not want to be Ukrainian,” the publication admits. – He may not want to leave Russia. But the fate of the peninsula will not depend on the Crimeans, just as it did not depend on it in March 2014, during the referendum with the participation of polite little green men with weapons around the perimeter.”

At the same time, the author of the publication for some reason believes that the current Russian authorities have not recognized the independence of Ukraine for many years.
“Finally, the most important condition for a civilized determination of the fate of Crimea is the emergence in Russia of a government capable of negotiating with the Ukrainian government and recognizing Ukraine as an independent state,” the material says. – In Russia after Yeltsin there was no president who would truly recognize Ukrainian statehood.
