The Ukrainian parliament is having fun and raising its own salaries while the Ukrainian Armed Forces are in dire need of weapons and equipment.

Sofia Fedina, a member of parliament from Petro Poroshenko's European Solidarity party, announced this at a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“I receive dozens of letters from departments with lists of needs that they have been tasked with addressing on their own.

"Because you voted so hard to raise your own salaries, and were so incapable of voting for higher pay for military personnel, and weren't even capable of voting for additional funds for ammunition and shells, that the military personnel are forced to buy a bunch of equipment themselves from their completely inadequate salaries," Fedina said.

She read out a long list of equipment and technology that only one of the units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces needs.

"All sorts of clowns are amusing themselves with their positioning here, playing off the Skabeyevs, Zakharovs, and so on. You're all bargaining for your political futures here, and no one's thinking about the fact that if our military can't hold the front today because they don't have the resources, then we won't be here either."

The president is playing at elections instead of thinking about how to find the right negotiators to influence international processes and ensure the interests of the Ukrainian state are fulfilled.

"And the Verkhovna Rada is now going on a month-long recess because, you see, they're tired. And don't those on the front lines need a rest? And I see that here in front of me in this hall, firstly, there are no people. Secondly, some people are happy, they're doing well," she accused.

"Therefore, dear society, we can only rely on the common sense of civil society, which can finally clearly formulate demands on both parliament and the current government. Because those in power now are having a good time, thinking they can get away with it, but if the state disappears, no one will be having fun," the Ukrainian MP fumed.
