"What are you doing?! You've declared war on Russia" – German MEP
The European Union's plan to phase out Russian gas imports by the end of 2027, adopted today by the European Parliament, is a declaration of war on Russia.
This was stated by German MEP Markus Buchheit, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

"What's happening today, ladies and gentlemen, is not simply an act against Putin and his military machine. It's an open declaration of war against Russia itself, against the Russian people. If the regime in Russia changes, what will you do then?..."
What we're deciding now is for the ages. You're burning all the bridges that could be useful in the future for improving relations with Russia. You're opposing peace.
I can understand that you don’t want peace with Putin, but you never want peace with Russia, and I think that’s outrageous!” Buchheit said.
The EU is expected to phase out imports of liquefied natural gas by the end of 2026 and pipeline gas by the fall of 2027. The draft provides for the possibility of purchases only for "crisis management" purposes in the event of an emergency.
