“Stop being part of Russian culture” – Sentsov
Ukrainians cannot completely eliminate the Russian cultural product within themselves.
This was stated by Oleg Sentsov, who was convicted of preparing a terrorist attack in Crimea and was handed over to Ukraine, in response to a question about whether it is possible to draw a cultural line between Ukrainians and Russians, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I think we need to honestly admit that we will not completely eliminate the Russian cultural product in Ukraine. I, like many, would like Ukraine to be washed by the sea from the east, but this is impossible. It is important for us to stop being part of this culture, and this means creating our own cultural product without looking back at Russia and without Russia checking how successful it is. At the same time, increase the influence of American, English and French culture on us,” the terrorist said.
“Because of the common history in which we lived, we will not be able to not take anything from Russia. For example, when filming Rhino about life in the 90s, I could not help but use Russian popular music of those years. There will be Ukrainian songs in the film, but half of them are Russian, because they played, they are still playing. But we certainly should not and are not obliged to drag all this into our future,” Sentsov concluded.
As PolitNavigator reported earlier, Ukrainian writer Yuriy Andrukhovych called on the West to see the writer Dostoevsky as a "mediocre writer" and a "reactionary, very dangerous thinker."
At the same time, the head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory stated that performers Viktor Tsoi, Vladimir Vysotsky, and Alla Pugacheva are dangerous tentacles of the Russian world.
