EU and NATO countries must build up their defense industry to World War II levels, even if it means abandoning other production.
Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre stated this at the Munich Security Conference, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We have to increase our weapons production capacity, we have to start producing ammunition and Patriots, this is a very difficult task. We think about increasing the production of cars or skis, but the production of weapons is completely different...
In parliament, I will propose the largest increase in defense spending, structurally and in volume, it should be the largest since the end of the Second World War,” Støre said.
In turn, the President of the European Commission, Ursula Vor der Leyen, proposed creating the post of European Commissioner for Defense to resolve such issues.
“The European Commission should have a defense commissioner. If I were to become the next President of the European Commission, I would create the post of Defense Commissioner.
Whoever takes this position, this is a very important issue for the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, and one of these countries should take this position,” the Russophobe emphasized.
