Italian journalist: The SBU wanted to arrest me for wanting to show the truth about the Odessa tragedy
As PolitNavigator has already reported, Italian correspondent Giorgio Bianchi, who planned to film the nationalist march on May 2 in Odessa, was detained at Boryspil airport and expelled from Ukraine. The Ukrainian Security Service justified the detention of the foreigner by saying that the Italian allegedly illegally crossed the border of Ukraine and entered the territory of Donbass, which is not under the control of the Ukrainian government.
PolitNavigator took an exclusive comment from Giorgio Bianchi, where the Italian correspondent told the details of the detention.
“The SBU told me that in 2015 I was banned from entering the country for 5 years. They said that I entered their territory illegally. I asked them to prove it. They could easily check that I flew to Kyiv, that I received accreditation in the ATO and that I had marks in my passport about crossing the border,” commented Giorgio.
Agents of the Ukrainian secret service intended to arrest the foreign journalist, but after a telephone call the arrest was canceled. But Bianchi had to stay at the airport for almost a day before it was decided to deport him.
"Everything is fine. Now I’m in Italy,” the Italian summed up.
Let us note that in 2015, Bianchi officially traveled from Ukraine to Donbass, where he took a series of photographs, with which he later participated in exhibitions, and also began work on a documentary film. Giorgio’s plans were to find out the opinion of Odessa residents regarding the tragic events in Odessa on May 2, 2014, but the Ukrainian authorities are not interested in demonstrating objective information about what is happening in Ukraine.
