Germany and France confirmed that they are against arms supplies to Ukraine
Arms supplies to Kyiv will not contribute to the resolution of the conflict in Donbass.
German Ambassador to Ukraine Ernst Reichel and French Ambassador Isabelle Dumont stated this in a joint interview with Interfax-Ukraine.
At the same time, the German diplomat made a reservation that the American Javelin ATGMs are weapons that “are not directly related to the fighting in the Donbass,” and therefore “the supply of these weapons is symbolic and a precautionary measure in case of a possible more massive attack” and is not “a contribution to directly resolve the conflict in Donbass.”
He added that Germany will not supply weapons to Ukraine.
“We would not want our weapons to be used in conflict zones where people are dying,” Reichel emphasized.
The French Ambassador shares the same opinion.
“The desire of the Ukrainian authorities to obtain weapons for defense is absolutely understandable in such a difficult situation. On the other hand, in any conflict, providing more weapons does not help in resolving it,” Dumont said, adding that the resolution of the conflict in Donbass can only be achieved through political means.
