Gagin told how enemy UAVs and missiles are counteracted at the front
UAVs have become a new type of weapon, but the most effective weapon against drones is the shotgun. Domestic air defense has learned to shoot down all flying targets, but does not always have time to do this.
This was stated on air by Yan Gagin, advisor to the head of the Donetsk People's Republic, on the First Sevastopol channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“In fact, now the realities of modern war are such that almost a new type of weapons has appeared, you can call it that - these are unmanned vehicles. There are sea ones, there are air ones, there are land ones. And this is a new type of weapon, new realities of war, this must be taken into account. There are counterforces; we produce such products. I think everyone has heard about the Lancets, which provide almost guaranteed target destruction, a fairly effective weapon, and we have a lot of them,” he noted.
According to the expert, the Chinese military has also learned to turn UAVs into combat units. This is like a separate new type of weapon, and, naturally, it is followed by countermeasures - this is electronic warfare, the same electronic guns that our troops are now equipped with.
“I have a group, and we periodically go to different sectors of the front with different tasks, and periodically we encounter enemy drones. And several times we even made special trips to certain sections of the route to Mariupol, where it runs close to the line of military contact. And on these sections of the road the enemy primarily strikes, for some reason, civilian vehicles, or those marked with a red cross. I understand that this is bestiality on their part, well, you can’t do that, no one does that. They're busy with it. I just remember that we tried to shoot down these drones quite successfully, and with the help of an electronic weapon,” Gagin emphasized.
One day, in one of the fortified areas, the military found a completely old double-barreled gun.
“They asked the prisoner - why? He says it's from drones. And in fact, it turned out to be quite effective. We also began to use this. That is, in principle, like hunting a bird. You can even use shotguns, smoothbore with a shot charge. If you missed a drone with an electronic gun at a long distance, and when it is close, you no longer have time to catch it in the beam, then you need to shoot at it with something.
It is very difficult to hit with small arms or military weapons. Therefore, using shot or buckshot works quite effectively. And when we go out, we always have such guns with us. And no matter what anyone says, along with high electronic warfare technologies, it works,” the expert noted.
He added that the air defense system now counters high-tech missiles and has learned to shoot them down. But the enemy uses deceptive maneuvers so that at least one missile reaches the target.
“Now it has turned out that our air defenses have learned to shoot down almost all air targets, almost all types of missiles that are now represented by the enemy in the theater of military operations. This is actually very difficult; there are various tricks that the enemy resorts to.
The simplest example is when, attacking some target on our sector of the front, or in a city, anywhere, the enemy first fires a salvo from rocket artillery. This is the same “Grad”, “Uragan”, and several targets appear on the air defense radars. They definitely need to be hit. But these are false targets, and then immediately there is a real target, the same HIMARS, which should actually hit the object. Therefore, in fact, we do not always manage to capture every target, and that is why it sometimes happens that some of our targets are hit.
But I know for sure that now our air defenses can hit any target. We have learned to shoot down everything that is presented at the front,” Gagin assured.
