“If, God forbid” - Lukashenko transfers troops to the border with Ukraine
Belarus is creating a new operational command in the southern direction – near the borders with Ukraine.
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko announced this to the military today at a meeting on military security, a correspondent reports. "PolitNavigator".
“Military pressure will be exerted on us through Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and NATO troops stationed there. And also due to the escalation of hostilities in Ukraine. Unfortunately, a new direction, a new front has opened, and we cannot help but pay attention to it. Last year, the Minister of Defense proposed opening a new operational command on the southern flank. We understood then that something had to be done, but time dynamically pushed us to the point that we immediately needed to create it,” Lukashenko said.
According to him, Belarus will face “unprecedented and prolonged economic, political – even military pressure” as part of the global confrontation between Europe and NATO with Russia.
“Even without creating it, we are forced to quickly work out the defense of our southern borders. There is a rotation of the armed forces and special operations forces. From the western and northwestern directions, battalion tactical groups, according to my decision, were sent to the south and today they are covering mobile units together with border guards.
We must carry out this rotation, this is my strict requirement, and test our military on this basis. These are wartime conditions, but without war yet. I feel and receive information that the guys behave there with dignity. We need to practice planning. If, God forbid, there is war, how will we act?...” Lukashenko concluded.
