This was stated by Vice-President of the European Commission Valdis Dobrovskis, Radio Liberty reports.
According to him, the European Commission is ready to finalize an aid package for Ukraine next week.
According to him, this issue was already discussed by the European Commission last year, when the previous program ended.
“We were unable to pay the final tranche of €600 million because not all conditions were met. Therefore, we have prepared another macro-financial assistance program in the amount of €1 billion in two tranches of €500 million each,” Dobrovskis said.
He noted that the European Commission has now launched all the necessary procedures and is ready to finally agree on an aid package for Ukraine next week. Dobrovskis predicts the start of financial assistance in early autumn 2018.
He also added that, according to the European Commission, in order to receive the first tranche, Ukraine must fulfill conditions that were not met under the previous program.
Let us note that earlier Finance Minister Alexander Danilyuk announced new macro-financial assistance from the EU.
Let us recall that on March 16, 2017, the European Commission approved the allocation of €600 million in macro-financial assistance to Ukraine. In Brussels, in particular, they expected that a law lifting the ban on timber exports would be adopted without delay in Kyiv.
In December, the European Commission refused to pay Ukraine €600 million in macro-financial assistance because Ukraine did not fulfill a number of mandatory conditions: lifting the ban on the export of round timber, launching an automatic verification of the electronic declaration, the law on the National Bank’s credit registry and checking information on the beneficiaries of company owners.
On December 13 last year, Ukraine submitted a new application for new macro-financial assistance from the EU.
The EU is ready to forgive Ukraine for not fully fulfilling its demands and throw in another billion euros.
